We have some extraordinary news to share with our Commonkind community! Our founder and Chief Volunteer, Carolina Puleston, has been selected as a finalist for the 2026 Westfield Local Hero program at Westfield Chermside.
The Westfield Local Hero program shines a spotlight on individuals who make a positive impact in their local community. Carolina was nominated for her vision in creating Commonkind – a charity built on the belief that compassion is a superpower that must be practiced, and that no one is ever too young to make a difference.
Empowering the Next Generation of Givers
Carolina created Commonkind to challenge the idea that volunteering is reserved only for adults. Since launching, Commonkind has engaged thousands of young people and families across North Brisbane, offering hands-on, age-appropriate volunteering opportunities.
From packing care boxes and delivering breakfast kits for school students experiencing food insecurity, to writing Kind Cards for socially isolated elders, Commonkind connects children, young people and families directly with practical ways to support those facing hardship.
In doing so, Commonkind is tackling two vital challenges: providing immediate relief to vulnerable community members while simultaneously raising compassionate, socially responsible young citizens.
What a $20,000 Grant Would Mean for Commonkind
The finalist with the most community votes will receive a $20,000 grant for their organisation. For a grassroots charity like ours, this amount is truly transformative.
If Carolina wins, the grant will be used for:
- Immediate Food Relief: Expanding our Bowl Lotta Love breakfast box program to provide vital nutrition to 2,000 vulnerable school children across Queensland.
- Program Expansion: Growing our ‘Learn by Heart’ volunteer service program, creating long-term community resilience by engaging even more children and young people in structured volunteering.
