Interview with Lou Veyret (Advisor)

Lou Veyret, joins commonkind with excitement and a deep sense of alignment to its mission. While her taste in hot beverages is questionable (PSL?), her experience and track record is undisputed. Her inquisitive mind and interest in seeking new perspectives positions her perfectly as our Advisor for Research and Development. Outside of her stellar career she finds joy in planting flowers, cooking, and being inspired by her kids to be a role model. She joins us over the phone and in-between kitchen dance party breaks to tell us more about her passion for purpose.

I jumped at the chance to join commonkind as I’ve been not only excited to follow the journey so far, but because the mission deeply aligns with my beliefs and values.

Question 2: What were you like as a child?

I was a shy, responsible and thoughtful child that loved pop music, coming up with big plans and helping out my family.

I can’t remember which one exactly was the first, but every year I did the MS Readathon, and door knocking for the Salvos, as well as Caritas’ Project Compassion.

Volunteering for a long weekend at Sony Children’s Holiday Camp as a teenager left a lasting impression on me.

Question 5: What’s the very first job you had (that’s not on your LinkedIn profile) and what did you learn from the experience?

I worked at my grandparents’ gift shop where I learnt how to count back change, wrap gifts, do stock inventory and what a cash float was.

Question 6: What do you do for fun?

Dance parties in the kitchen, cooking, going for walks and more recently, planting flowers and vegetables.

Question 7: What motivates you?

I’m motivated by my kids, they inspire me to be a good role model.

Question 8: How do you practice self-compassion?

I’ve found doing meditations and trying to be peaceful helps me practice self-compassion. Also trying to look at stressful situations with love and care.

Question 9: If you could give children and young people one piece of advice, what would it be?

Be curious! Don’t be afraid to ask questions, try new things and seek other perspectives.

Question 10: What is your most used emoji?

I probably use this emoji 4-5 times a day!
