Capability Statement
Overview
Commonkind is a Brisbane based ACNC charity and registered Public Benevolent Institution on a mission to evolve Australia from the lucky country into the loving country. We operate a pioneering youth led empowerment model that provides benevolent relief to Australians suffering from poverty, food insecurity, and social isolation.
By rewriting the traditional rules of volunteering, we create age-appropriate community service pathways that enable children, young people, and families to become active contributors to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 2, and 3.
Our operations are anchored by robust governance and professional integrity, supported by pro-bono partnerships with a leading Australian law firm and a national accounting and advisory practice. This unique combination of grassroots heart and institutional discipline allows Commonkind to deliver immediate, high-impact relief while nurturing the next generation of compassionate social leaders.
Core Competencies
Commonkind delivers measurable social impact through a structured and scalable approach:
- Youth Led Social Design: We empower young people to identify local needs and design bespoke projects that tackle poverty, food insecurity and health inequities.
- Targeted Benevolent Relief: Our model provides support to people and communities experiencing disadvantage and distress. We work collaboratively with other charities and not-for-profits to extend our reach and increase our effectiveness.
- SDG Alignment (1, 2, and 3): All initiatives are mapped against global targets for poverty reduction, food security, and health and well-being.
Governance and Compliance
Commonkind operates with the transparency and rigour of a major institution:
- Professional Support: Our governance is reinforced by a leading Australian law firm and a professional accounting firm to ensure full regulatory compliance.
- Charitable Status: We are a Public Benevolent Institution (PBI) with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR Item 1) status, registered with the ACNC.
- Safeguarding: We adhere to the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations and the Queensland Blue Card system to ensure a safe environment for all participants.

Risk Management Statement
Our approach to risk management
Commonkind maintains a proactive and multi-layered approach to risk management to protect our beneficiaries, volunteers, and the integrity of our funding partners. Our framework is designed to identify, assess, and mitigate risks across four key domains:
1. Financial Oversight and Accountability
To ensure the highest level of fiscal responsibility, Commonkind is supported by a professional accounting firm. Our financial systems provide:
- Full transparency for all grant acquitted funds.
- Regular internal audits and financial reporting to the Board of Directors.
- Strict controls on expenditure to ensure maximum resource allocation to frontline relief.
2. Legal and Regulatory Compliance
Our operations are supported by a leading Australian law firm. This partnership ensures that Commonkind remains compliant with:
- Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) regulations.
- Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) standards specific to Queensland.
- All contractual obligations associated with government and private grants.
3. Safeguarding Child and Youth Safety
As a youth led organisation, the safety of young people is our absolute priority. Our risk mitigation includes:
- Blue Card Compliance: Mandatory Working with Children Checks for all relevant staff and volunteers in Queensland.
- Policy Framework: Rigorous adherence to the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.
- Supervision Protocols: Structured oversight for all youth led projects to ensure physical and psychological safety.
4. Operational and Reputational Risk
We utilise a formal Risk Register to monitor project specific risks, including supply chain disruptions for relief goods and community engagement challenges. Our Board of Directors reviews this register regularly to ensure that mitigation strategies remain effective and responsive to the changing social landscape.
Documents
In the interests of transparency, we publish relevant policies to this site for our stakeholders to access. Each policy is updated at a minimum in line with our review cycle or more frequently as operational requirements dictate.
